In 2014, my world fucking shattered when my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Four years of anticipatory grief and her eventual death in 2018 taught me life’s cruelest lesson: nothing in life is guaranteed.
Just as I began to slightly navigate that loss, my sister’s unexpected death in 2022 slammed me with a new wave of grief and trauma — totally different from what I had experienced with my mom.
